Welcome to Scooter's Place!
Scooter’s Place is a local non-profit organization serving the children’s community, especially those who need just a little more patience, including children on the Autism spectrum, children with anxiety disorders and those with Down Syndrome. Scooter’s Place is neither a therapeutic barn nor a mainstream barn but somewhere in between, offering a fun and flexible, but structured and safe environment to learn in. We offer horsemanship education that teaches life skills, self-confidence, and body awareness in a non-restrictive and non-judgmental barn environment. All of our animals are donated or rescued.
Who is Scooter?
Scooter was Carrie’s childhood horse and serves as both our namesake and the inspiration behind our programs. A rescued, off-track Thoroughbred (OTTB), Scooter enjoyed great success as a Hunter Jumper competitor for many years. After retiring from the competition circuit, Scooter was Carrie's first lesson horse and taught literally hundreds of children how to ride. Scooter recently passed away at the amazing age of 35 but his spirit lives on every day through the work that we do.
